A Life Changing Experience

The most defining moment in my life was during the football season last year. After practice was over we were listening to our coaches talk when they brought up my name. The coaching staff had recognized how hard I was working and how I would be later rewarded. Before being recognized I didn't play that much so I just kept putting in as much effort as possible which led me a better person on and off the field. This has stuck with me ever since then and has taught me to never give up regardless of how tough life might be.

Socratic Seminar question

Last Wednesday during our final Socratic seminar for Out of The Silent Planet, someone asked if it is possible for a whole society to be purely good as a whole. The first question that comes to my mind is, isn't everyone's definition of good different? One person might think that raising money for charities is the right thing while another person can believe that robbing others is creating good in the world. It depends what mental state your in, how you were brought up, and what you believe in. There are no set of principles or rules that cam make or influence every single person in a society to act and think the same way.

Opinion not Fact

Marcus Aurelius once stated that "Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perspective, not a truth." We grew up in a society that voices its opinions whether it is supported by a fact or not. What I take from this quote is that you cant believe what a lot of people say because the actual facts are hidden behind peoples distractions. You have to generate your opinions based off the supported facts and see beyond peoples diversions. This is when we see past perspective and find out about the actual truth. Who knows if you would ever be able to find truth but if you do, maybe you will find pure happiness.

After reading about the existence of god and how philosophers believe why we are we are living really had me thinking of what I firmly believe in. I have never been religious and or had the time to think about what I believe in. I know now that I am not sure whether I do believe in god or not but I definitely interested into exploring it. I also believe that we were put on this earth for a reason. We should enjoy life as much as possible and if there were to be another life beyond this then that would be awesome.  I believe that we need to help each other as much as possible and just great good in the world because without good we wouldn’t be able to live life with happiness. Everyone deserves to have pure happiness and that’s why I believe people are on this planet. You will always have bad moments in life but if we never have those moments we can never appreciate the best moments. That Is what I believe in so far and I am looking forward to exploring new ideas and beliefs.
